BARE BONES MACHINE®
Single Cylinder Specialists
Race Bikes From Jay's Shop...
Bare Bones is a unique enterprise... We specialize in the modification
of single cylinder engines primarily from Rotax and Honda... Our extensive
experience has allowed success in a wide variety of single cylinder applications...
Including, motocross, flat track, ice race, road race and micro-sprint cars.
In addition to the basics we offer exotic engine mods... Eliminate the transmission
and put the output on the opposite side...? No problem... Put twin down-draught
carbs where one horizontal item had been... Done monthly... Billet fabrications,
custom machining, Tig welding and creative solutions to difficult problems
are my specialties...! Our unique designs have won from Sears Point and Willow
Springs to Daytona and Road Atlanta... Up on Pikes Peak down to the Chili-Bowl...
On the pavement in the dirt or out on the ice... There are unique problems
presented by each of these venues and each customer... We are small enough
and experienced enough to approach each on an individual basis... There is
nothing available off the shelf... Other than Bridgestone Tires... Megacycle
Cams... and Wiseco Pistons... Everything else is a prototype... If this is
what you need then contact me... Over thirty years of the wierd and unusual.
I may well have already been there and done that... Jay Wright
Building A BBM TZ:
The TZ based thumpers for which we have become known... displace from 350cc
to over 700cc... We have developed these things well beyond the "junkyard-dog"
status that is typical of most "engine-swaps"... This is not an all-thread
and wing-nut installation... I don't try to attach the head steady to the
coil mounts... All the unessential mounts and bracketry are removed with surgical
precision... Well designed "hard-points" are added to the chassis... The Rotax
powered units require bonded, captive, rubber, isolation incorporated into
these mounts... This is partially necessitated by the swing-arm pivoting in
the engine cases... And partially by the intense nature of these engines...
The Hondas mount separately and are smooth enough to live without this extra
expense...
Dry-sump oiling systems require an oil tank that is immune to surge... and
a system designed to eliminate the air from the scavenged oil... This along
with divisions that prevent the hot, recently returned, oil from being immediatly
sent back to the engine are some of the features of our designs...
Stainless exhaust systems are so superior in both looks and performance over
time that there is little to recommend the old rusty stuff other than as an
inexpensive development tool... A carbon pipe that works well initially will
loose top-end (maybe gain at the bottom) as the effective diameters shrink
with the texture of the accumulating rust... Stainless is forever...
"Clubman Special"
This engine has been built in a couple different configurations. We
are using this setup in our MRA race bike and it displaces 675cc with
an 81mm stroke and 103mm piston (Currently, Jay is developing a 701cc
model). It is very reliable (relative to the water pumper) and a little
bit simpler to maintain. With the downdraft head, Ti oversize valves and
adjustable cam timing it is a race winning combination. In 500cc form
this race engine features twin 35mm carbs uses a short stroke crankshaft
from a 350 along with piston & cylinder from a 600. This setup won the
Supermono II race at Daytona in '99.

BBM 680 Water Cooled Racer:
Supermono 1
The 675cc SuperMono (SOS F1) bike combines a twin-cam, water cooled
Rotax engine and GP-winning chassis into a front-row singles racer.
This machine captured the 1995 national championship (Jason Weir) and
finished second in '96 and '97. In the 1997 Daytona SuperMono race,
guest rider Aaron Turner passed the entire field (including Alan Cathcart
and Michael Barnes) for the lead on the very first lap. High Maintenance:
This thing is a rolling hand grenade...( For Industrial Use Only!)

BBM 680 Air Cooled Racer:
Supermono 1
Air cooled entry for the Supermono class uses a 675cc Rotax engine
(Soon to be converted to 701cc). On this motorcycle, our modified twin-port,
down-draft air cooled head provides a simpler and less expensive alternative
to the water cooled twin-cam engine. The installation is slightly less
complex; lacking the radiator, 2 of the ignition coils and additional
frame modifications required to fit the twin-cam engine. This model has
proven to be the best compromise between power and reliability. We have
also built single carb versions as well. The bike below (#138) (Craig
Wright) won the 1999 MRA Lt. Wt. Superbike and Formula Colorado class
championships... (See above pictures)

BBM 500 Water Cooled Racer :
Supermono II
Our 500cc entry is a de-stroked 605 Rotax. The short-stroke crank (70mm)
from a 350cc engine with the large bore (97mm) produces a 500cc single
with a 10,000 RPM red-line. Water cooling, 3 spark plugs, Carrillo rod,
a rev-happy engine, a proven road race chassis, Galfer Brakes and Bridgestone
tires complete the package. This combination won the 1995, 1996 and 1997
SuperMono F2 national champion.

BBM 350 Air Cooled Racer:
SuperMono 3
The 350cc Rotax engine utilizes our heavily modified head
featuring a custom Bare Bones down-draft intake system and titanium valves
for maximum horsepower. The first day on the track (the rider on a GP
chassis and slicks for the his very first time), the new 350 won the SOS
F3 race at Daytona! Mike Gonteski followed this up by becoming the
1997 and 1998 AHRMA SOS F3 national champion

Honda RFVC engine with a proven TZ250 chassis and is a solid, sorted and
very fast effort. Ports and intakes modified to accept 37mm Kehiens. This
is your "biggest bang for the buck" choice of BBM racers...

BBM 660 Can-Am Supermotard RR
This bike started as an 82' Can-Am Sonic (560cc). Certainly
a hybid of the highest order (see specs). The bike works really well at
short tracks but gets a little flexy on the higher speed stuff. In its
element it is a really fun, comfortable, and easy to ride machine. With
its long swing arm, this thing is the hole-shot king... BBM can adapt
most any component to your singles racer. Jay has modfied countless SRX's,
Ascot's, SR 500's, ATK's, Husabergs, KTM's, etc...
